About the Vital Aging Network Web Site

The focus of the VAN Web site is to provide easy access to education, advocacy, and guidance for finding personal direction. The pathways for Finding Personal Direction and Seeing All the Options are designed to link older adults, as explorers, with options for productive, meaningful activities that match their individual needs and interests. The pathway for Advocating for Vital Aging is designed to link individuals and organizations, as advocates, to options for promoting the self-sufficiency, community participation, and quality of life of older adults.

Volunteers as Information Collectors
As shown in the site map for the Web site, many individuals and organizations are information collectors. For each topic, volunteers have been asked to collect and submit information for regular updates by the Web site manager.

Community Connectors
People will not use this Web site unless they are told about it by someone who knows what is here and sees a connection to his/her own individual needs and interests. Throughout the state, VAN is inviting staff and volunteers from organizations that provide services for older adults to workshops where they learn about and explore the VAN Web site. They are then asked to reach out and provide information about the VAN Web site to potential users. They are also being asked to provide information for the Web site about resources in their regions.
